چکیده

A well-recognized source of error in the indirect measurement of blood pressure results from using the standard sphygmomanometer cuff for arms of widely different diameters (Pickering, 1955). When the arm is thicker than usual, blood pressure readings are higher than those obtained by direci intra-arterial measurement; when the arm is thinner; the readings are lower. Hence, for correct indirect measurement, the width of the blood pressure cuff should be in proportion to the circumference of the arm (Bordley et al., 1951). Since it is impractical to use a large series of cuffs of different widths, a special cuff was constructed that could be adjusted to the appropriate width for each subject. With this adjustable cuff, the error in blood pressure reading due to variation in thecircumference of the arm was largely eliminated.

Adolescent hypertension identified with correct cuff and its cardiovascular and gestational problems after 29 years

OBJECTIVE to identify, in 2011, rates of hypertension, cardiovascular and gestational problems in subjects presenting high blood pressure in 1982, when correct cuff size was used, according to the American Heart Association Arm Circumference/Cuff Width ratio of 0.40. METHODS high blood pressure was defined in 2011 as systolic = 115 mmHg and diastolic = 80mmHg, resulting in 20 subjects between...

Systematic difference between blood pressure readings caused by cuff type.

In this study we determine whether blood pressure readings using a cuff of fixed size systematically differed from readings made with a triple-bladder cuff (Tricuff) that automatically adjusts bladder width to arm circumference and assessed subsequent clinical and epidemiological effects. Blood pressure was measured with a standard cuff or a Tricuff in 454 patients visiting an outpatient clinic...

Arm cuff in the measurement of blood pressure.

Selection of an arm cuff of the right size is necessary for accurate measurement of blood pressure (BP). Incorrect measurement can result either in unnecessary investigations, treatment, and follow-up for the mistaken diagnosis of hypertension, or no treatment for hypertension in individuals mistakenly thought to have normal BP. This is of particular importance in children, who have age-depende...

تخمین بدون کاف فشارخون مبتنی بر ویژگی‌های زمانی سیگنال نبض

Blood pressure is one of the vital signs. Specially, it is crucial for some cases such as hypertension patients and it should be monitored continuously in ICU/CCU. It must be noted that current systems to measure blood pressure, often require trained operators. As an example, in post-hospital cares, blood pressure control is difficult except with the presence of a nurse or use of a device that ...
